The air was thick.
I mean it was so dense that you could cut the tension with a knife.
Jesus, the Son of Man, was telling us that he was leaving.
What do mean you’re leaving?
We’ve been on this journey for three years.
Rome has a reckoning coming.
Then he took a towel and bowl and washed our feet.
He’s the Prince of Peace and he wants to serve us? Who does that?
The air was thick.
So thick you can cut it with a knife.
Then He takes the unleavened bread breaks it and said “Take and eat. This is my body which is given for you.”
Wait…what …Jesus ,our brother, why are you doing this?
Then He takes the wine jug and pours up a chalice.
He said “Take and Drink. This is a new covenant by my blood, which is lured out for you.”
Really Jesus, what do you mean by this?
You are not going anywhere.
That was the toughest bread to swallow and bittersweet wine to drink.
Yes the air was thick.
So thick you could cut it with a knife.
Then thief leaves in midst of all of this.
I wonder what was so important that he skipped such an important dinner?
We were naive to fact that later that night we had to say goodbye to Jesus.
The quietness of that night was too quiet.
That was some last meal.
I will never look at bread and wine the same again.
