Hi everyone. I hope your week has been full of bountiful blessings. As a patient with a genetic disorder, I have my good days and my share of bad ones. Today was one of the good ones physically. Spiritually, on the other hand, I’m at a crossroads. I’m not doubting God or His love for me. I’m just trying to figure out how to line up my life with what He has planned for me.
Seeds of doubt about my career, my personal life and how I’ve been using my spiritual gifts are trying to take root. Is it time to look for something new? Am I an effective leader in my church and community? How can I be a better man for my family, my church, and the people I care deeply about? Is God pleased with what I’m trying to do in making disciples? Yeah, it’s like I’m having a spiritual mid-life crisis. I’ve been praying about this and trusting God for answers.
If you know me, you know I’m a fan of music. If I could, I would be a musician in another life. I always have a song for any occasion. I can remember the melody of a song faster than I can remember a name or a face. I know it’s sad, but that’s how my mind works. I decided to listen to the radio on the way home. The first song that came on was by Charles Jenkins called “Keep The Faith.” I thought nothing of it. Then Tasha Cobbs sings “He Knows My Name.” Then the third song that comes on was Brian Courtney Wilson’s ” God is doing a great work.” By the time the third song was finished my eyes were watering. It felt like a calm was coming over me. It’s amazing how the power of music can have on one’s soul.
I know its just a rotation of songs but those three really assured me today. God gave me three simple reminders:
1. I must keep the faith.
2. God knows my name.
3. He’s doing great work in me.
Sometimes it just takes simple reminders from God to help you remember that everything is going to be fine. Sometimes we are doing better than we think we are. The answers will come in due time. We have to do our best and let God do the rest.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Friday and a great weekend.
