The Empty Place setting

The Holidays are here.

Except this year and every year after it won’t be the same.

You are no longer here.

You’re gone to the Church Triumphant.

You ran your race and now you gotten your reward.

No more hearing your laughter filling the house.

Gone are your jokes and stories of holidays past.

We accidentally set a place for you at your favorite chair but it hurts too much not to take it away.

As we try to move on with tears in our eyes, we tell the Lord thank you for sharing your life with us.

We will always miss you but your memory will live on.

So we will leave out the flatware, the napkins, and the plate.

We will honor your legacy and cherish the love you shared.

We will do it until we meet again.
