It’s Christmas and it doesn’t feel the same.
We lost you to a virus with a funny name.
We miss your presence in every room.
Instead of sounds of laughter, our hearts are filled with gloom.
We had huge plans but they never took flight.
We had no idea we would lose you to COVID-19 that spring night.
Dinner felt off because you wasn’t there.
All we have are memories and an empty chair.
We used to look forward to this season and be full of cheer.
Now we face the reality that you are not here.
Three hundred and thirty thousand families and counting are feeling the same despair.
This is their first Christmas without their loved ones being there.
We did our best to spread the love of the season every where.
Then we are hit with grief after seeing that empty chair.
God give us comfort and help us cope.
Help us remember that there is still hope.
We thank you for our loved one, who is now in your care.
We will thank you always when we see their empty chair.
