Tears in Babylon

Lord your children are crying in Babylon

There are Mothers, fathers, daughters and sons crying rivers of tears are flowing in Babylon

We are the diaspora

Taken from the motherland

Forced to build a nation with our bloody and battered bodies

They took our names

They separated us from our families

They stripped us our identities

Lord your children are weeping in Babylon

Mothers , Fathers, daughters, and sons are crying rivers of tears in Babylon

We fought for freedom and equity and acceptance

We even gave our lives for it

The more we built the more they destroyed

The more we created and innovated the more they stole

The more we showed love they turned it to hate

Lord your children are wailing in Babylon

Mothers, fathers, daughters and sons are crying rivers of tears in Babylon

We are killing each other to escape poverty’s grasp

We are fighting over streets and turfs we don’t own

We leaving our children to fight on their own

The men and women that were called to serve and protect are constantly putting knees on our neck

God can we please get the targets off our back

Lord your children are hollering in Babylon

Mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons are crying rivers of tears in Babylon

We are stuck in an endless loop like crabs in a barrel

One child climbs the other child is yanking him back

Instead of self-love we are preaching self-hate

500 years and we still don’t fully own our freedom nor can we fully realize our dream

We are dependent on you oh Lord to remove the pain of our souls

Help us to overcome all the stumbling blocks that have hindered our way

Help all to see that is there is a brighter day coming.

Lord your children grown weary in Babylon

Mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons are drowning in their own tears in Babylon
